From time to time I like to search and look around at the history of the color pink, see where it’s used and what different cultures and different parts of the world think about the color. Below, I’ve randomly included some of the things I’ve found most interesting.

Jaipur City in India – Jaipur is known as the Pink City. It is the capital and largest city of the Indian state of Rajasthan. According to Wikipedia… “In 1853, when the Prince of Wales visited Jaipur, the whole city was painted pink to welcome him during the regime of Sawai Ram Singh. Today, avenues remain painted in pink, provide a distinctive appearance to the city.”

Galápagos Pink Land Iguana (pictured below) is a species of lizard of the Iguanidae family. It is native only to northern Isabela Island of the Galápagos. The iguana has a pink body with some stripes, prompting some to call it a “pink iguana” or the “Galapagos rosy iguana”. The species was first discovered in 1986 and was identified as a separate species, distinct from the Galapagos land iguana, early in 2009.[2] This species is the only evidence of ancient diversification along the Galápagos land iguana lineage and documents one of the oldest events of divergence ever recorded in the Galápagos. via Wikipedia.

Amazon river dolphin, also known as the Pink Dolphin is a freshwater river dolphin prevalent to the Orinoco, Amazon and Araguaia/Tocantins River systems of Brazil, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia and Venezuela. The brain of the river dolphin is 40% larger than a human brain. via Wikipedia.

Irish Pink Adoptions – Irish Pink Adoptions is a support group in Ireland for pink families. Irish Pink Adoptions defines a pink family as a relatively neutral umbrella term for the single gay men, single lesbians, or same-gender couples who intend to adopt, are in the process of adopting, or have adopted. It also covers adults born/raised in such families. The group welcomes the input of other people touched by adoption, especially people who were adopted as children and are now adults.

Darya-ye Noor - One of the largest pink diamonds in the world. Weighing in at an estimated 182 carats, it is currently part of the Iranian Crown Jewels.

The color pink has been around a fairly long time; first recorded in the 17th century to describe the pale red color of the flowering plant in the genus Dianthus.  Pink is a combination of red and white which is why there can be so many different hues of pink. With each variation of the depth of the color red or white you’ll get a different shade of pink.

Some people I’ve talked with are often surprised when they hear that pink was originally considered a color for males. It wasn’t until the 1940′s that pink was considered a female color. While this is still the norm for today, it’s nice to see this lightening up a bit and now more men are wearing pink.

Hello Pink! I have started to visit some boutiques to introduce my accessories there, and I need to bring my computer with me because with more than 500 different items in the store catalog, it is kind of hard to carry a sample for everything, but since I do have pictures of all the products, all I need is some samples and my computer.
I needed something that would be practical, stylish….And cute ….Something that would go with my store theme. Finding a computer bag that is stylish is not that hard, but finding one that wouldn’t be too big and that would match my store was another story….Then I found this great computer bags store called Rainebrooke and I knew my problems were solved.
Rainebrooke offers the cutest PINK, yes that is right pink computer bags I have been able to find so far. The pink taxi service was also recently started a few months back in Mexico’s colonial city of Puebla with a new fleet of 35 pink cabs. The idea is to offer women a comfortable, relaxed and safe environment to get around in. In the past women have complained saying male taxi drivers often cross the line and make inappropriate propositions, said Aida Santos, a driver of a pink taxi. The taxi’s in Puebla will also be for women-only, driven by women-only, with each taxi having a tracking device and an alarm button to notify emergency services.

Some women’s rights activist say the pink taxi’s are just giving a sugary presentation and are not really addressing the harassment problem. In a small way I agree with this, but in my view the pink taxi service isn’t going to hurt anyone either. If the taxi service provides a relaxing atmosphere for women who may be in a strange, unknown city then what’s the harm. None in my opinion. It’s also providing jobs to women in a traditionally male dominated field. Sure the overall problem of harassment needs to continually be addressed, but I see nothing wrong with taking this one step towards trying to resolve the problem.

With all these different countries joining in on the idea, I think they all agree with me… you can’t go wrong with the color pink
