Kate found several species of journalist exist… each with their own unique needs. Kate gave each species the perfect name

Journalist Maximus – the “I carry everything with me at all times” journalist.

Journalist Simplicus – the JS doesn’t want to carry a lot of gear (or if they do, it’s small gear – netbook, point and shoot camera, iphone) and needs to move quickly.

Journalist Retroicus – often seen sporting a fedora, this journalist eschews any and all equipment besides their trusty notepad.

Journalist Impatiens Paranoicus – generally a traveler – roaming to far-flung, exotic locales to ply their trade.

And my favorite!

Journalist Fashionista – She (fieldnote: typically, though not exclusively, this species is female) wants it all. Capacity for all her gear, comfort in the carrying and style in the look. She wants to fit in on the pages of Vogue yet write for Newsweek.

Head over to Funchico.com and read the full article and field guide to laptop bags for journalist. The full article includes dozens of different bags, showing which ones are the best for each species of journalist. The new Rainebrooke Black Candy laptop bag, is one of the bags listed for the Journalist Fashionista.

Not only can your pet be carried safely in the back-pack carrier, but there is also room for your laptop and the portable dog house. The P@W has a foldable Pet Dome and a perfect soft crate so that your pet can enjoy the security of home while at your office or anywhere that you wish to take him. The Pet Dome comes with a soft double sided comfort mat. Pet Dome and cushion come with the P@W but additional ones can be ordered separately. The P@W is expandable from compact, to standard, to expanded, its dimensions are (W)15″X16″(H) both fixed dimensions, and depth 9″, 13″ or 16″ when fully expanded. I couldn’t fit either of my 70# labs in this backpack, but this is how my dog would travel if I had a small breed.

The P@W backpack is currently on sale at Hunter K9 Gear for $148.

Last week when I was coming home from my family trip to Colorado I was walking through the airport and noticed someone with this Zitteli Z-One backpack. At the time I didn’t know it was made by Zitteli, but seeing a skateboard attached to the backpack I had to get a closer look. Once I got close enough I was able to see the name Zitteli across the back. So today I finally had a chance to look up the company that makes it. On the Zitelli website there isn’t much information about the company, but it appears they’re based in Las Vegas since this is what’s on their contact page. This Z-One backpack looks like a really great product. It’ll not only carry the skateboard, but it has a padded laptop compartment that will fit laptops up to 13.5”x12”x2.5”, a detachable cell phone case, water bottle pocket and a detachable music-station backpack that carries a player, CDs, has a pocket and pass-through headphone port. The backpack is made from a 600 denier polyester that’s water resistant. While I no longer skate, I think this would have probably been my bag of choice for traveling around when I was a little younger. It sells for around $60 at several online retailers. You can check the Zitteli site for a list of retailers. ~ Comment on this bag and let us know what you think.

After my blog a few weeks ago about the T-Bags touring bag I received an email saying I should check out a company called Boblbee. Boblbee was established in 1997 with their headquarters located in Torekov, southern Sweden, with product development and research carried out in Malmö, Copenhagen, Los Angeles and Hong Kong. Boblbee offers a wide range of products, but what caught my attention were their hard-shell backpacks. The Megalopolis Sport (pictured) is a tough and good looking hard-shell backpack. The hard-shell exterior is an ABS plastic monocoque shell for impact protection and is painted with a lacquer automotive paint. It has a water resistant lid, external strapping system with 6 fastening points, waist belt, sternum strap and cell phone pocket. The interior has large mesh pockets for bike tools, along with a pocket divider that can be removed. With the divider inserted, there’s a pocket for your laptop that will fit a maximum laptop size of 14”x10”x2”. This Sport model is designed to handle all Boblbee’s Megalopolis product line accessories to customize for biking, skiing or expanded packing capacity. The Meg Sport is 22”x12”x6” in size, weighs 4 lbs, is available in red, gray, blue and orange and sells for around $160. It can be found in some US retail stores in CA, OR, KY, NY, a few on-line stores and several retailers around the world (check site for details). ~ Comment on this product … Do you own one? Let us know what you think about it.

The Cyclobag while not necessarily a laptop bag is never the less one really cool bag. It comes from Tintamar and French designer Edith Petite. What’s really cool about this bag is the changeable faces. The faces include colors, pictures, and faces with pockets, netting and more. Once day you may feel like a having a nice pink face attached, the next day you might need a bunch of pockets, and the next you might need one with netting to hold your bicycle helmet. Just unzip one face and zip another back on. The Cylcobag attaches very easily to a bicycle with the special one-touch attachment unit. You would need a really small laptop for it to fit in the Cyclobag but if you like the idea of the bag, Tintamar also offers a Cyclobag for laptops. While not quite as cool as the round bag, the Cyclobag for laptops does still have a round pocket on front and attaches to the one-touch bike unit. Both of these bags can be found in stores located in France, Japan (pics from AssistOn), Australia and a few other countries. The Cyclobag sells on the Tintamar site for around 45 €, with faces costing about 15 €. The Cyclobag for laptops costs around 54 €. Unfortunately Tintamar only ships to France. ~ Comment on these products. Do you like it or dislike it?Â

The new Logitech KINETIK backpack has in my opinion some really nice styling to it. If I needed a backpack to carry a lot of stuff including my laptop, this bag would definitely be on my “to buy” list. The outer shell (made from polyurethane/ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) composite) provides protection for the laptop which secures on the inside, in a padded sleeve. The hard shell also allows the backpack to be free-standing so it won’t fall over when you set it down. Inside are plenty of expanding compartments, cargo bays and convenience pockets for all your other stuff. The KINETIK fits most 15.4” laptops and when available will sell on the Logitech site for around $100. ~ Comment on this product. Do you like it or dislike it? How do you think it could be improved? What colors would you like to see it in? Via Pop Wuping.
