If you work from your car every day, here’s a product for you. The Virtual Office Workstation II car desk from Virtual Office Inc. is a laptop briefcase, mounted laptop stand and desk all in one. I know it’s a rough looking briefcase, but if you work from your car you most likely need something that’s tough. Since the briefcase is hard sided it’ll take a few knocks fairly well. It’s made from ABS and acrylic plastic so it’s rigid but lightweight. When you’re ready to work from the car, the desk mounts and locks into the stand. You can then use the desk as a writing surface or pull out your laptop and use it as a laptop tray. You can purchase the desk separately for $179, or with two types of mounts / stands. The desk with a no drill mount is $358 or with a self drilling mount is $268. Now, if they only offered the desks in some colors

As a side note, you read more about ABS and what it’s used for here. One thing I found interesting is that ABS is sometimes used in tattoo inks …inks that contain ABS are extremely vivid.

I think I found my next accessory purchase for my laptop…it’s this APC universal laptop battery. The APC UPS battery backup for my desktop has saved me countless times. The afternoon thunderstorms that come rolling through my area are always knocking out my power. And it never fails that the power goes out during the worst time possible. About 2 years ago I got tired of it and I bought one of APC’s UPS backup products. It’s worked perfectly for two years, so when I started looking around for an extra laptop battery I was glad to find the one pictured which is also from APC. The battery pictured is their UPB70. I like several things about this battery. First is the 6 hour runtime. 6 hours…that’ll help on the plane when I forgot to fully charge my laptop. Second, with dimensions of 10” x 6.5” x 0.6”, the size is perfect and will fit great under the laptop. And third is the weight, weighing only 2 lbs it won’t add to much weight to my bag. It also has the following features: 4 LED status indicators; 4 selectable output voltages; Charges and powers one mobile device via a USB port; Up to 80 Watts continuous power and 90 Watts peak power. The UPB70 retails on the APC website for $135.

Laptop skins are nothing new but I’ve been seeing some really cool ones lately. For those unfamiliar with laptop skins, they are made from vinyl or polyurethane and have a design of your choice on one side and an adhesive on the other side. You stick the skin to the cover of your laptop which gives your laptop a little spice and color instead of the plain gray and boring lid most laptops have. According to Paul’s Laptop Skin Lens you should look into the type of adhesive used on the skin you’re considering. Paul says “Different companies use different qualities of glue, some with disappointing results that either leave a residue when the skin is removed, or failing to let you re-stick the skin to your laptop. One well known adhesive is a product from 3-M(R) called “Comply”, so be sure to ask your vendor what they use that or something similar for adhesive.”Â

There is a whole bunch of companies offering skins, but to name a few check out:
Skyn which offers a variety of skins including some which come with your choice of Swarovski crystals so you can monogram your skin with your initial. Garskin offers a big selection of skins including some Disney skins the kids are sure to love. Gelaskins has laptop and iPod skins with fine art prints to contemporary urban images. Shctickers offers skins for both laptops and iPods and you also have the option of designing your own skin. Upload your artwork or photo and they’ll create a skin for you.

Have you purchased a skin from a company that’s not (or is) listed above? Feel free to comment and let everyone know what company you purchased from and what you think about the skin you bought.
