Spice up your laptop with a laptop skin

Laptop skins are nothing new but I’ve been seeing some really cool ones lately. For those unfamiliar with laptop skins, they are made from vinyl or polyurethane and have a design of your choice on one side and an adhesive on the other side.  You stick the skin to the cover of your laptop which gives your laptop a little spice and color instead of the plain gray and boring lid most laptops have.  According to Paul’s Laptop Skin Lens you should look into the type of adhesive used on the skin you’re considering. Paul says “Different companies use different qualities of glue, some with disappointing results that either leave a residue when the skin is removed, or failing to let you re-stick the skin to your laptop. One well known adhesive is a product from 3-M(R) called “Comply”, so be sure to ask your vendor what they use that or something similar for adhesive.”

There is a whole bunch of companies offering skins, but to name a few check out:
Skyn which offers a variety of skins including some which come with your choice of Swarovski crystals so you can monogram your skin with your initial. Garskin offers a big selection of skins including some Disney skins the kids are sure to love.  Gelaskins has laptop and iPod skins with fine art prints to contemporary urban images. Shctickers offers skins for both laptops and iPods and you also have the option of designing your own skin. Upload your artwork or photo and they’ll create a skin for you.

Have you purchased a skin from a company that’s not (or is) listed above? Feel free to comment and let everyone know what company you purchased from and what you think about the skin you bought.

i bought my 15″ mac skin from skinit.com. i uploaded a custom image and was REALLY pleased with it! it’s nice thick vinyl and was easy to stick to the machine. i have no plans of removing it, but i imagine that when i do, it won’t be hard. i’d recommend them to a friend.
